The Barnet Safeguarding Children Partnership

A warm welcome from the BSCP Manager

Hi everyone,

I thought I would publish on our website a warm hello and introduce myself as the new BSCP Manager, taking over from Anna Jennings.

It's a real honour to be able to support the Safeguarding Partnership and our statutory partners, colleagues across education and the 3rd sector in taking forward continual improvements to safeguarding practice. All in order to keep children and young people safe.

It's incumbent on all of us to commit to safeguarding children and I hope to be able to provide support and challenge to all in order to drive forward a culture of continual learning, reflection and development of safeguarding measures. Whether this be from disseminating new guidance as a result of legislative change, learnings from child safeguarding practice reviews both locally and nationally, sharing of best practice from fellow partners and learning events; I hope to bring safeguaridng to the fore.

It's a hugely important time as children and young people come through the impact of Covid19 and as we seek to support them. We are also seeing a step change in the way young people can raise concerns upon their safeguarding. With the use of social media being a conduit for this, where they feel perhaps that there is no trusted adult or that no-one is listening to them, they have taken forward a collective approach to sharing their experiences -  as seen by the 'Everyone's Invited' platform and many young females telling their apalling experiences of sexual harrassment, coercion and control. We must, more than ever before, put young voices and experiences front and centre of our practice delivery.

I thought I would kick off by sharing a fantastic resource recently published by the National Youth Agency (NYA) whereby they have provided a one stop shop of policy , process and procedures for organisations working with children and young people. From Risk Assessment templates, safeguarding toolkits, staff conduct policies and incident reporting - it is all there to be utilised and adopted.

If you see anything you would like to share with colleagues, or you have any feedback on how we can improve this newsletter, we would love to hear from you at

I hope to be back in touch with you again soon with news on our next Children and Young People's Practitioners Forum.

Until then, take care.

Tony Lewis,
Partnership Manager, Barnet Safeguarding Children Partnership
